Man's Best Friend
It has been stated that the dog is Man's Best Friend because he wags his tail and not his tongue. This statement may contain some truth, but dogs, like their wolf cousins have a strong desire to be a part of a pack, or family. There has to be a leader in every pack in order to maintain the proper social structure and control of that pack. When your dog does not perceive you as the leader, he will do his best to gain control of the pack. Training will put you in control, make you the leader, and gain the respect of your dog.
